On August 12, Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC) delivered the Marjan oil and gas collection and transportation platform of Saudi Arabia National Oil Company, the heaviest and most powerful China-made international offshore oil and gas platform in Qingdao, Shandong. This marked a new breakthrough in international offshore oil and gas engineering and was significant to promote effective cooperation between Belt and Road countries in this regard.
As an 8-leg platform, the Marjan platform is mainly for collecting and transporting offshore oil and gas to land for processing. It can collect and transport 24 million metric tons of crude oil and 7.4 billion square meters of natural gas, making itself the most powerful offshore platforms for crude oil collection and transportation in the world. Moreover, it is taller than a 24-storey building, weighs over 17,200 tons, and boasts a deck area equivalent to 15 basketball courts. Compared with its counterparts, the Marjan platform is configured with the largest and most sophisticated pipelines. It will be employed for Saudi Aramco's Marjan increment project. After being put into operation, it will empower the oilfield with the greatest offshore oil and gas processing capacity in the world.
COOEC is responsible for the construction, pre-commissioning and loading of this highly integrated large platform in line with the world’s most rigorous standard. For this purpose, COOEC has developed a self-developed intelligent management platform, created the "integration + visualization" model, and extensively applied cutting-edge technologies such as automatic composite welding and phased array ultrasonic inspection. This has enabled top-notch efficiency, acceptance rate, and safety performance in the world.
The Marjan project is Saudi Aramco's first project executed by COOEC as a general contractor of the consortium. The completion of the project serves as an example for Chinese companies to engage in construction projects of Belt and Road countries in accordance with high standards.
In response to the Belt and Road Initiative, COOEC has actively carried out extensive cooperation with Belt and Road countries and regions in recent years. It has launched nearly 70 projects and developed an engineering system represented by the design, construction, installation, and commissioning of fixed offshore platforms and floating platforms deep under water, thus having significantly contributed to energy development and high-quality advancement in economic and social fields of the Belt and Road countries.
